A man was freed from his car this morning (30th April 2018) after becoming trapped by a falling tree.

The incident occurred at around 7am in Canterbury Road, Herne – between Curtis Wood Park Road and Curtis Wood Road – when the man became trapped by a tree which fell in the strong winds and hit the car he was travelling in.

A man from Maidstone has been arrested and charged in relation to a burglary which took place in Herne Bay.

Between 1st and 2nd April, a burglary took place at a house in Western Esplanade, Herne Bay. On Sunday (29th April 2018), Thomas Andrew Munday was arrested in Maidstone and later charged with entering the house with intent to steal.

The Canterbury planning committee have rejected discount store Lidl’s application for planning consent to build a new store in Herne Bay. 

At the meeting, which took place this evening, the application was narrowly rejected by 7 to 6. 

Tivoli site

Canterbury City Council has successfully completed the purchase of an abandoned seafront eyesore.

The Tivoli site, opposite the Clock tower, has sat empty and been on the market for several years and is in a state of disrepair.

Memorial Park

A man has been threatened with a spanner in the Memorial Park in Dering Road, Herne Bay.

The incident happened just before 4pm on Saturday (17th February), when the victim, a man in his 20’s, was verbally abused by a teenager and subsequently threatened with the spanner.

Firefighters were called to St George’s Terrace, Herne Bay this afternoon to tackle a fire in a derelict building. 

The building, formerly the St Benedict’s nursing home, is known to be used by squatters, although there wasn’t anyone inside the property and no injuries have been reported. 

Kent Police have renewed an appeal for information following a serious collision in Herne Bay on 28th January which has now resulted in a death.

The crash occurred at 10:07am that Sunday morning when a car collided with a cyclist. The cyclist, a local man in his 70’s, was taken to a London hospital with serious injuries and subsequently died yesterday (Friday 9th February).

Four teenagers, three of whom are from Herne Bay, have been charged following reports of anti-social behaviour in the town.

Two 14-year-old girls and a 15-year-old girl from Herne Bay have been charged with 30 offences between them and a 14-year-old boy from Canterbury.

Officers from Kent Police are asking witnesses to come forward with information, following a two vehicle crash in Herne Bay.

The incident happened at around 9:55am on Tuesday (6th February) when a Nissan Qashqai and a Mitsubishi Shogun collided on the Old Thanet Way, between Chestfield and Eddington.

Police are reminding local residents to check the credentials of cold callers after a report of bogus callers in Herne Bay.

At around midday on 1st February, two men called at a house in Selsea Avenue offering to replace guttering.
